  8. RT-Expert enables C programmers to easily integrate Expert Systems rules
  9. into their C or C++ applications. RT-Expert consists of a rules to C-
  10. code compiler and a library containing the rules execution engine. RT-
  11. Expert for DOS works with Borland Turbo C, Borland C++, and Microsoft 
  12. C/C++ compilers. The personal edition is licensed for educational, 
  13. research, and hobby use. Applications created with RT-Expert personal 
  14. edition are not licensed for commercial purposes. Professional editions 
  15. are available for commercial applications using DOS, Windows, and Unix 
  16. environments.

  18. Rules based programming, used in expert systems, reduces the size of 
  19. decision code for an application by a factor of 10:1. Previously, this 
  20. technology could not be easily integrated into an application because of 
  21. the complexity of interfacing with expert systems shells and inference 
  22. engines. Now, with RT-EXPERT, the interface is as simple as calling a C 
  23. subroutine.

  25. With RT-EXPERT, users can break down their rules into multiple 
  26. subroutines to facilitate ease of integration. When an application calls 
  27. upon an RT-EXPERT generated subroutine, a mechanism is automatically 
  28. invoked to control the firing of the rules. Rules are triggered by 
  29. changes to data and also by the passage of time. The mechanism also 
  30. supports goal directed chaining as well as depth first searches. Because 
  31. rules are compiled into C code, execution is much faster than with 
  32. inference engines that interpret the rules.

  34. RT-EXPERT includes a tutorial and examples of how to program in "expert 
  35. systems" rules. It is an excellent way for programmers to learn this 
  36. important technology and to inexpensively integrate Expert System rules 
  37. into their applications.
